I started playing sports, I think, before I even popped out of my mom! And this will reveal my young age, but I was one of the FIRST recipients of the benefits of Title IX when it was passed. I played basketball at the University of Alabama in 1973 (my freshman year). Then, in 1974, suddenly we had a women’s athletic director, real full-time paid coaches, uniforms and provided travel. We also got scholarship money. I was among the first group of basketball players to receive an athletic scholarship at the University of Alabama! Wow. We were so happy. While at the same time thinking, it’s about [damn] time!
